  • The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways recently revealed numbers on the number of individuals killed in road accidents in the country.
  • According to these estimates, 1.68 lakh persons will die in road accidents across the country in 2022.
    In addition, 4.45 lakh people were hurt.
  • In India, the frequency of accidents has climbed by roughly 12% since 2021.
  • Meanwhile, the death toll has risen by 9.4 percent.
  • Speeding was responsible for over 75% of all accidents in 2022.
  • Following this, 6% of the fatalities were attributable to driving on the wrong side of the road.
  • Drunk driving and texting and driving accounted for 4% of all fatalities.
  • National Highways and Expressways account for 32.9% of all accidents.
